Brought to you by BMM (Brihan Maharashtra Mandal) of North America, MAIYTRA (Maharashtrian Association of Indian Youth Together Representing America) is the world’s largest convention for Marathi young adults ages 18-35+. Held every two years since 1994, MAIYTRA began as an effort to preserve Maharashtrian culture among Marathi young adults in North America. Since then, it has grown into a vibrant and prolific community of Marathi young adults interested in celebrating our cultural heritage. The conventions provide a forum for social and professional networking with other young adults who share similar backgrounds, values, and a common interest in maintaining the Marathi community into future generations. Past conventions have been held in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Toronto, and Cincinnati and young adults travel from all over the continent and abroad (including the UK and India) to attend.
MAIYTRA 2010 is meant for ALL young adults 18-35+, and this year we’re working to include activities specially designed for undergraduates and young couples (whether Marathi or mixed), in addition to the traditional range of activities for young professionals and singles.
Washington, DC is the perfect location for MAIYTRA 2010. 4th of July weekend in America’s capital is an experience not to be missed. And with political activism and energy increasing among young adults now more than ever, it’s fitting that we hold a convention in which our young adults take greater responsibility for the Marathi community as a whole. Join us as we showcase the talents, achievements, and diverse strengths of our culture and all our local communities through a wide array of programs and activities.
